Earlier this year we launched a program called “Think Precinct.” On the surface this program is to create an organized Party on the precinct level. But more deeply I’ve come to learn the program has the potential to do something unintended but ultimately amazing. It is helping us not only be organized Democrats but it is also giving us an avenue to become better neighbors. It’s connecting us with those who live in our neighborhoods by helping us get to know them, their families, and maybe even becoming their friends.
What a novel idea!
By befriending your neighbors and gaining trust through genuine and heart-filled measures you are going to help Democrats earn move votes and more support than ever possible by sending postcards, phone calls, or canvassing from the Party.
What Think Precinct really is: The Good Neighbor Program.
So here is my request, whether you have taken part in the training program or not, let’s spend some time over the next couple weeks introducing yourself to your neighbors as a representative and volunteer for the Salt Lake County Democratic Party. Instead of asking for their political opinions or trying to sell our progressive ideals why not ask them for food? Thousands of people are in need this Holiday Season. With the economy in the state it is in there is a huge need for help this year. Being a Democrat means we care about those less fortunate but we not only care, we do something about it.
Collect non-perishable food items from your house and your neighbors and bring those items to the Central Committee Meeting, to your Legislative District Chair for collection (see website for details www.slcountydems.com), or directly to the Utah Food Bank. Be sure to tell your neighbors who you are and what organization you represent, then kindly ask for a donation of food. Who knows, you may just change some minds, or even make some friends.
We can make a difference in our neighborhoods and in our community and we can be Democratic leaders and advocates at the same time.
Good luck and have fun meeting your neighbors and making a difference this Holiday Season.
One last thing, as always, Please consider becoming a sustaining donor to the Party and support this and other programs
